First Visit by First Birthday
If you’re not sure when to bring your child in for his or her first checkup, it might be sooner than you think! The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children visit a dentist no later than their first birthday.
During your child’s first visit, Dr. Walker will complete a comprehensive oral exam, focusing mainly on issues that can affect the development of your child’s teeth and bite (such as finger sucking and tooth eruption). She will then thoroughly discuss her findings with you, give you helpful tips for keeping your child’s mouth healthy, and let you know what to expect in the months and years to come.
We know that kids’ dental visits are a family affair, and you’re more than welcome to come back to the treatment area with your child as he or she gets familiar with our Lumberton dental office.
Comprehensive Pediatric Dentistry
Twice-yearly dental checkups are the best way to reinforce good oral habits like brushing and flossing.
Dental sealants fill in the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, preventing bacteria and food particles from getting stuck and causing cavities.
Fluoride protects teeth from decay and can even help reverse the early stages of decay. Dr. Walker will end each of your child’s dental visits with a fluoride rinse to really fight off cavities.
Athletic mouthguards shield your child’s teeth and soft tissues during high-impact activities, and they can also help prevent more serious head trauma like concussions.
Tooth-colored fillings require fewer shots and drilling than traditional silver fillings, and the results are so natural you won’t even notice a difference in your child’s smile.
If your child has a toothache or chips a tooth, call our office right away! We’ll talk you through the situation and schedule a same-day emergency visit if necessary.
We look forward to taking care of your family!
